Solutions for global environmental problems are vital requirements at the present time. Under these circumstances, the demand for hybrid cars and other environmentally friendly automobiles is expected to expand.

Hybrid cars feature higher energy efficiency by harmonized operation of combustion engines and electric motors. For optimizing control of energy efficiency, accurate detection of the rotation angle of motors is essential. There are several types of rotation angle sensors including optical encoders and Hall-effect sensors. Among these sensors, the resolver is the most suitable to be used under severe conditions in automobiles.

Japan Aviation Electronics has been developing resolvers that are essential devices for hybrid and electric cars. We have started mass production of the VR type resolver (JVR Series) and a specific IC (R/D converter JAC3601) that is an interface device converting the analog signal output of the resolver into a digital signal.

JVR Series is based on JAE's original winding and magnetic circuit design techniques obtained through the development of sensors for aviation. This product can be customized to various types of motor systems of hybrid and electric cars. JAC3601 is a high performance R/D converter in a package that is the smallest in the world, provided with multiple fault detection functions, efficient noise elimination and high accuracy/high response capabilities, incorporating know-how accumulated in the development of aviation control devices.

Our customer Honda adopted these new products for the brand-new CIVIC launched nationwide in the U.S. in April 2011. SIM-Drive also adopted them for the SIM-LEI unveiled in March 2011.

We expect increasing demand for resolvers along with wider market penetration of hybrid and electric cars. JAE will establish a global network for a quick response to customer demands in all regions. Permanent enhancement of our technology and close cooperation with our customers will help JAE to become a trusted partner of the automotive industry and our products will shortly be seen in many different car models around the globe.
